Farm Week

During farm week, at circle, we would use these props to practice positional words, descriptive words, and language in general. Sometimes we would hide an animal in the barn doors and the kids would have to guess who was in the barn based on a description of the animal. Sometimes, we would place the animal in a certain spot and have the children use positional words to describe where the animal was.

(I bought this from our local feed store and was a bit apprehensive because the last time I tried this in the sensory table, the corn had weevils in it. YUCK! This time, I had high hopes. But of course, I got it out of the bag, and weevils again! I was so disgusted, but I didn't want to waste it. I decided to poor the bag in the sink and  wash it in warm soapy water. I then laid it on a towel and tried to dry it off, then rubbed hand sanitizer ALL over the corn. Then dried it again. I think this killed all of those creepy little bugs because I didn't see any after that. I think my para thought I was insane!!!)


I created this book for shared reading. The book was a repetitive text which made it very predictable for the kids. Both of which are great for shared reading! I think the pages read, "I see a cow on the farm. The cow says, "moo, moo."
 

My para, Janice (who is amazing by the way), made this positional book. Each page had a picture of a child next to, on top of, under, beside, or in the barn or a farm animal.





We used these farm masks when singing Old MacDonald and other farm songs.







I saw this on another blog. We used glue dyed black to outline a leaf, the kids then water painted the leaves.

We went on a nature walk and found a few different types of footprints. I believe deer and raccoon.






We made a camping area in our dramatic play. We hung black butcher paper from ceiling to floor and on the two sides where the kids enter, we hung black crepe paper. Boy did it look awesome! We brought out  a tent, some camping chairs, a small grill, and fake fire, some fishing poles, and a mini pool filled with letter fish for fishing. We also have a small PVC house in our room which we used for a tent too. Janice even brought in some glow in the dark stars to hang on the ceiling.

Our SLP, Debbie, came in to do a class activity making trail mix. She then took the kids to the tent to enjoy their fun snack while listening to a story.

Apple Week!

We had so many great apple activities that we had to make it 2 weeks long!
 
 
Everyone brought in an apple and we graphed them by color.





We explored the similarities and differences in the different colored apples.

This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets to use in the classroom. It's called an Apple Peeler Corer Slicer and it is from the Pampered Chef. We used this to slice our apples for the pie.

This nifty tool allowed us to taste the shoestrings, aka: the apple peel.

Apple Pies:
We painted two paper plates brown, used our fine motor skills to rip red paper for the inside apples, and then glued it all together.

Our apple feast consisted of apple pies, applesauce, and apple chips.
